Greetings from Wilmington, NC, where I'm shooting Sleepy Hollow. I'm having so much fun kickin it with my screen dad, Orlando Jones. (Still haven't met the Sin Eater.) Terrifying monsters aside, this article came out today in Horizon Travel and Lifestyle Magazine, an insert of the Wall Street Journal. Written by Billy Shore, the founder and CEO of Share Our Strength and No Kid Hungry, the story reveals Jeff Bridges' efforts to end childhood hunger in America. As you know, I also support this very important cause. The story will be featured on the ABC Studio's outdoor screen in New York's Times Square Thanksgiving Week. HERE'S MY GUEST BLOG FOR NO KID HUNGRY. PLEASE READ AND SUPPORT THIS VERY IMPORTANT CAUSE!
Every morning before I head out the door, I eat a filling breakfast. As I step outside and face the day, I feel ready for the day's challenges - assignments, class work, after-school activities. A nutritious start to the day should be guaranteed for every kid in America, right? Unfortunately, it's not.
Nearly 16 million kids in America are at risk of hunger. Daily, these children have to deal with problems that most of us don't even think about - the uncertainty that comes from not knowing when they’ll get their next meal.
This is why I was so eager to get involved with the No Kid Hungry campaign. It's heart- warming to know that I can make a difference in a child's life.
The No Kid Hungry campaign connects kids in need to the food and nutrition programs that can help. It teaches kids and their parents how to cook nutritious food on a budget and it helps bring people from all walks of life together to end childhood hunger in their communities.
And kids play an important role too. The weekend of September 6th –9th, we’ll all join together for GO ORANGE FOR NO KID HUNGRY and use social media to spread the word about ways to help end childhood hunger.
So get started now by making plans for you and your friends at school, in your neighborhood or your team or club, to wear orange September 6-9. Then take a photo and send it to Share Our Strength at email@example.com, post it to Facebook or tweet using #GoOrange hashtag. And if you’re really inspired, enter the essay contest with cash prizes by answering the question: “Why is ending childhood hunger in America important to you?”
Several weeks ago, I visited the Share Our Strength booth at Variety's Power of Youth Event where I met Hailee Steinfeld who's a big supporter. It's such a good cause, I had to help out. As a birthday present to me (I turned 13 on October 23), I asked that you sign the pledge to end childhood hunger. Here's an update: Share Our Strength has more than 100K pledges to its No Kid Hungry campaign. Go to the No Kid Hungry website and sign now! According to Share Our Strength, just $1 can help connect a child to 10 nutritious meals. And when you donate before December 31, your gift will be matched by the No Kid Hungry Partners. Let's do it! Happy Thanksgiving!
